These exquisite 100% Virgin Dyed Quality Japan Silk US Flags with bound hems are from 1959, the only year the American flag had 49 stars. The sheer silk has a semi-transparent characteristic that exudes elegance! They are the customary parade size of 12 by 8 inches and have been sealed in boxes in an old warehouse for decades. Genuine 1950's production. They have not seen daylight for almost 50 years! No fading here! The colors are bright and vivid creating exceptional contrast, displaying the extraordinary attributes of Virgin Dyed Japanese Silk. The 49 star flag is unique to the year 1959. Alaska joined the Union in May of 1959. Hawaii came into the Union a few months later in August of 1959. Because the official flag for the year is the one flown on the 4th of July, 1959 flags had 49 stars. It was quite controversial, especially with the flag makers. Everyone knew that there would be 50 states that year, and no one wanted to manufacture or purchase 49 star flags because they knew they were obsolete before they existed! Consequently, not many 49 star flags exist.

This rare flag, is now referred to by collectors and history buffs as the Alaskan Heritage Flag. Hardly any  were made for their limited marketing period of only the one year, 1959. These were made in Japan. A small quantity were found in an importers warehouse where they sat for over 40 years. Absolutely beautiful! No snags, No fading, Perfect Condition! You get one dozen!
