2 Stack Spring Wind Up

Tin Toy Ship ~ Japan

With Dime Store Display Box

This all tin ship has superb deep stamped tin lithograph details. The twin stacks highlight the multi deck structure and captains bridge. Unique wind-up mechanism. It features the novel Large Side Key style spring wound motor. As the ship travels across the floor, the large key slowly turns as it unwinds. Each large ear of the key is just long enough to just barley touch the floor, affecting the course of the ship. When the key ear touches the floor or table top, the ship turns smoothly! Remarkable traveling action. It runs a long time on one winding.

It comes in it's own dime store display box with a color illustration of the ship on the cover. Called the United States, it is typical of the classic styling of the Japan tin exports of the 1950's and 60's. This hard to find item is a quality "Made in Japan" working replica and is not real old. Works Great. Perfect Condition! If you like vintage Dime Store and Variety Store stuff, bookmark us. We pack it securely and send it First Class U.S. Postal.
