Toy Tin Watch

Bozo The Clown

Tin & Celluloid ~ 1950's Japan

This toy watch is actually made from old beer cans turned inside out, a favorite materiel for Japan after WWII. Japan was strapped for resources to manufacture anything, and they were resourceful and creative with recycled materials. Many small toys were made from recycled beer cans thrown away by the occupying forces of the US.

This watch is an excellent example. Bozo was a hot commodity in the early 1950's. This watch displays an early example of his facial features. The hands rotate with the small knob on the side. The lens cover is made from celluloid. When you look at the back of the watch, you can see the beer can tin litho graphics. It has two slots at the top and bottom to attach a strap, and has the word "Japan" stamped into the back cover.

This is an exceptional tin Japan import. This item is typical of stuff in the large Dime Store merchandise finds we made.
