J.B.L. “Perfect Pearl” Unfilled ~ Unused ~ Metal Toothpaste Tube 1910 ~ Lithographed Graphics  Decades before plastic was discovered. This 1910’s unfilled toothpaste tube, with cap, is all metal including the top. The photo shows 2, so you can see the open bottom of the tube from where they filled it. You are getting 1. It might be lead, I am not sure. It is very easily bendable. These were "Left Over's" never filled at the factory and are open at the bottom which is where they filled them from, then they pinched and crimped them shut at the bottom. Typical beautiful Graphics associated with Dr. Lynas & Son Products. The screw on top is shaped like a crown, with the Company Logo of the letters J.B.L. intertwined.
Dr Lynas always had exquisitely beautiful looking packaging. The Graphics are not a label, but lithographed directly onto the tube. The metal is so soft, so you can squeeze the toothpaste out, that there are minor dings and insignificant out of roundness from ONE CENTURY of sitting on a shelf. I found that by blowing into the back of the tube, it “Rounds Out”. Also, a small dowel inserted will help smooth out the dings. Some people stuff cotton balls into them, some use a caulking, and some display them the way they are. Over a century old! If you collect Perfume, cosmetic or toiletries, you don’t have one of these yet. Light Green Background, Red & Blue Graphics and wording. Very Unique Toiletry item, from a Century ago, NEVER USED. Extremely soft and pliable metal, expect minor dings from any handling and shipping. Although a finger or wood dowel on the inside, while pressing on the outside will smooth them out pretty well. They came in an egg Carton Container that protected them from banging together.
 We only have part of a boxful. Half are toothpaste tubes and half are Catarrh Balsam tubes. They are 1 inch in Diameter, and 5 inches high. When these are gone, collectors will be able to find no more.  |
