Bonneville Salt Flats Nationals 10¢ Die Cast Race Car in Package Kenz “Twin Ford Special” Class “D” Streamliner ![]() This exceptional die cast toy race car is 3 ½ inches long. Made by Midgetoy. This is a scale replica of the Bonneville Flats Ford style Class D Streamliner. The first car to break the 200 MPH land speed record at the Bonneville Nationals. Midgetoy catalogs show this toy was available from 1953 through 1959. The tag is dated 1954. Sharp, two color details! Blue body with silver features. Note the 6 barrel, side by side pipes on the front hood. The 4 rubber wheels are recessed so it glides barely above the road just like the real thing! They came in Red or Blue. This toy was made by Midgetoy, Rockford, ILL. There is an interesting story behind it. The lower priced dime stores sold a lot of Midgetoys. A buyer for Mays Department store came across the Bonneville Flat Racer, and contacted Midgetoy. Could they “Dress it up” and make a higher quality car for Mays Department store toy department, known for their upscale items. They didn't want to be like the "Dime Stores". The car that all the other Dime stores sold looked beautiful, with a 2 tone paint job with silver highlighting the exhaust pipes, front grill & hood. It was a difficult task to make it better. But the Herdklotz Brothers, owners of Midgetoy, did just that. They came through by adding realistic decals to both sides of the car.
Side by side there was a visual impact that made the Mays version the greatest looking die cast car of the era! Unfortunately, we only have a few of this version, still in the bag with the Midgetoy elves top tag. ![]() You are getting the one in the package! Notice :This item is a genuine vintage toy from an era when there were no safety standards.
