1920's Tobacco Wrapper

Old Telephone & Locomotive

This impressive old wrapper has exceptional graphics featuring a gentleman smoking a pipe and talking on an old wood telephone. The background has a steam locomotive and telegraph wires. 4 color offset printing. Packaged by Scotten Dillon Co. Detroit, Mich. This genuine Tobacco wrapper fits the 1920's standard Tobacco plug size of an inch thick and 2 ¾ by 4 ½ inches.

A tobacco plug was a small compressed puck of tobacco that was the common pocket size to buy. Depending on the cut it would be for smoking or chewing or both. Wrapped in foil and covered with this paper label, It sold for a nickel or a dime, depending on quality.

The wrapper shown in the photo is wrapped around a small block of wood as it is displayed in my collection. The label dimension before wrapping is 12 by 4 ¼ inches. The few extras I am selling are sent flat, supply your own block or frame it flat. When wrapped, there is text on all sides except the top where the tax stamp goes. This is an exceptional piece of Americana. Perfect Condition. We pack it securely and mail it to you First Class U.S. Postal for a $1.85 shipping fee.
