1950's Die Cast
Futuristic Dream Toy Car
In 10¢ Store Rack Package
This die cast metal original is 3 ½
inches long. It has 4 rubber wheels. This toy has an
interesting story behind it. Midgetoy made a big success
with their 3 in 1 Die Cast Truck in 1947. Al and Earl
Herdklotz, owners of Midgetoy, wanted to beat the
competition to market with new models. They went to an
auto show in Detroit after the war, and came back with
plans to make their "Dream Car of the
Future" that was inspired by models they saw
at the auto show.
They introduced it in 1948 and made it
through 1954. This was the second toy Midgetoy ever made.
They thought they would beat the rest of the toy car
market when the model was manufactured. Well, history
tells the rest. The tail fins caught on, but the sleek,
low riding style with the elongated trunk and short front
hood just never happened! The result is this elegant
little matchbox scale model of a futuristic dream car
that was made in low quantities and is avidly sought
after by collectors.
Note the phenomenal detail on the tail
lights and front bumper and headlights! We found a box of
a few dozen in a dark corner of their old warehouse. They
have minor surface rust on the axels, otherwise they are
in Perfect Condition! They Come in Red, Green or
Blue.
